The Xushen Solution is back! Sweet!

And that follower is very, very nice.

Nice follower, will be easy to enter with or without peasant vengeance :D

The peep is good but might costy depending on our new economy... We will see if we have better or not but this is a fine addition already !

Not particularly a fan of the follower... it's costed right though, but nothing proactive and the opportunity cost of running it over the heavy infantry (we run infantry now) when paired with the new follower sensei is meh. If you stick with Aranai it's okay, that said I want to see another action that makes bowing a follower good.

The personality is solid as hell and plays to our abilities, has a ranged attack, and will see play in my standard military follower deck pairing with legion of the khan and trained horsemen.

It appears that 20 Festivals has been entered into Oracle of the Void.

This set has made up for the lackluster military we've had the past 2 sets. Xushen is a beast!

I thought our military was consistently strong.

I like this set so far, Ominous Armors AND Feign Deaths, just what the doctor ordered for all those pesky duels and RA.

So...

Turn 1: Buy Gold
Turn 2: Buy Okiau and Gold
Turn 3: Equip Ominous Armor, Attack, and then play Wedge for a 10F unit. (destroy the province and Ominous Armor saves Okiau)

Does this work?

Unfortunately not. Ominous Armor only substitutes for the destruction from another player's card effects.

Oh right!

I don't know how I overlooked that.

Either way our previews look solid. I think I'm going to take a Magistrate deck to the Twenty Festivals Arc Kotei's this Spring. And with all of the water spells our Shugenja deck got a huge boost in power.

Something to watch out for if you're going to any 20F Strict format tournaments.
They DID NOT reprint any of the Clan holdings in this base set, so Stables are not Strict legal.

While this is true, it is likely irrelevant for the spring kotei season as there are no 20F strict tournaments announced so far. 20F strict is...well... just the 20F set, so it is unlikely that it will be a popular format for awhile.

They should just consider making clan holdings Eternity cards.

No, they should never reprint them. They are severely unbalanced with gold pooling.

Why not just make them all 2 for 2's but if you are X clan it produces 3 gold when payong for an X clan personality?

Seems balanced to me.

It still becomes an auto include three of in everyone's deck, and 9 cards they have to print for each Clan, kept them Clan specific. I'd rather 9 completely different cards. If you want to go that route, I'd rather something like Clan Estates, or the newer Mystic Dojo. Give a bonus for specific, not-common keyword types so they can support multiple Clans/themes, and even then I'd prefer it to be something to help out the theme in a way other then 'I lucked out and got 10 Gold Production turn 1'

I'm of the mind they should get rid of gold pooling. That was a bad move as well.

There's nothing wrong with gold pooling. The old, non pooling method, was fairly unintuitive, and often became a time sink as people figured out exactly what they were using to spend on what. Pooling is easier to teach, and makes most purchasing a snap. Count it up, there we are.

Strict Format and Clan Holdings: There may not be many Strict format tournaments now, but near the end of the cycle? It's something you'll want to keep in mind.
